A weekend of family and verbal flubs.

And my sister accidentally punching my mom in the mouth. Oh my god.
Seriously, when us three Karbach ladies occupy the same room, some brand of inane shit is guaranteed to go down. Misadventures just follow us everywhere.
Straight up wouldn’t have it any other way.

My sister flew into town Thursday for my mom’s birthday on Friday. We assembled at her apartment complex’s pool area for an evening barbecue. My coworker BFF had bought my mom a silly birthday card and most of the staff, and a couple of my favorite regulars, signed with various well wishes. When mom opened the card she was rightfully confused at first – who the fuck are these weird people? Is what her face asked – but as soon as I explained she was downright delighted. The gesture by my coworker was so sweet and I think it made her day.
I didn’t take any pictures, but we served up grilled corn, my Caesar potato salad, marinated citrus salmon, BBQ shrimp, and chips and guac for snackage. Simple but delightful, even though for some reason the flies circulated around the seafood and especially the bbq sauce? I never typically experience fly issues except when we grill red meat.
Saturday I drove back to mom’s for cake and coffee – the cake is BOMB and will be shared soon! – where my sister accidentally socked my mom in the mouth after gushing about how pretty she looked with the makeup she’d put on (practice for my sister’s wedding). Then my sister and I grabbed a belated Bachelorette dinner at Doc Ford’s on St. Pete Pier. She’d held her proper bachelorette in May but I failed to go because I’m appalling in unfamiliar social situations, but I’d wanted to get together with just us so we could catch up and enjoy some sister time.

It was apparently National Rum Day, or at least according to Doc, so I got a mango mojito and she tried their mojito old fashioned. The drinks are fantastic and honestly pretty reasonable: $10 for booze is pretty good nowadays. I ordered a side salad and the steamed mussels and she got the seafood pasta, both incredible. The evening was hot but beautiful and the views from the restaurant are unmatched. I love St. Pete and need to get out there more often!
The rest of the week kinda moved along at an unremarkable clip. I anticipated being so busy during the weekend that I didn’t do anything extraordinary during the week, except work on autumn concepts and read a lot. My work schedule evens out this coming week and I’ve a normal weekend upcoming, no races or specific social situations on the calendar, so we’re back to normal there as well.

Of course, good eats were part of the week’s events! We’ve got a salmon tikka with snap peas, a random southwest-style salad with boiled eggs, and Caesar salad again with eggs and avocado toast. Simple eats but using up shit that haunted my fridge.
I’ve been posting running reels on my Instagram lately. For some reason I find creating those more palatable than filming my recipes, and I feel like they’re a nice glimpse into another important aspect of my existence. No one sees posts anymore as it is so I figure I might as well enjoy the content I create. Any running-specific themes you’d like me to pursue?
That’s all for now, kids. Hopefully more to report this upcoming Sidebar. Cheers!

Greenpan…I am LUSTING over this 9 x 13 inch baking dish. My current one ain’t looking so hot and I think this indulgence could be justified for upcoming fall/holiday projects.
Fashion
Target…Loving this drop waist mini dress, all the autumn colorways are A+ (am partial to the maroon). This ribbed sweater skirt is super classy, I’d love it with a simple black tank and ankle boots.
Week in Training
Monday, 8.11: 9 miles, 11:06 pace + 30 minute legs
Comfy morning miles. Forewent speedwork since I just raced two days ago. I felt great this morning, well recovered and there was definitely a cool tinge to the breeze that’s been hanging around this past week.
Strength:
- 3 x 8 ea. reverse lunge 40#
- 3 x 15 calf press 180#
- 4 x 10 ea. single leg press 90#
- 3 x 10 sumo squat 60#
- 3 x 10 ea. single leg squat with toe tap 15#
- 4 x 10 ea. bridge leg drop
- :30 ea. Copenhagen
Tuesday, 8.12: 4.5 miles, 11:28 pace + 15 minute core
Easy little run, lovely breeze, 149 bpm.
Wednesday, 8.13: 8.5 miles, 9:35 pace + 4 miles, 10:47 pace
Double the run, double the fun! Ran a nice threshold/10k sesh as 3k threshold and 3 x 1k at 10k goal. Felt really good, except a very intense headwind made the threshold segment quite difficult and probably hindered my performance. Kept a good effort, I think, however. Averaged 8:04 for the 3k, then 7:44, 7:43, and 7:42 for the 1k intervals.
Afternoon run was hot, slow, and sweaty, but felt pretty good thanks to extra GU electrolyte tabs and a couple SaltSticks!
Thursday, 8.14: 7 miles, 11:11 pace + 22 minute upper body
Nice easy miles, still felt a little tired from my hot afternoon run but my heart rate hung out at 149 bpm average which was surprising!
Strength:
- 3 x 8 chest press 70#
- 2 x 6/2 x 8 narrow lat pulldown 70/60#
- 3 x 12/1 x 10 biceps curl 15#
- 3 x 8 shoulder press 20#
- 3 x 10 triceps pushdown 28#
- 3 x 20 deadbug 25#
Friday, 8.15: 4.11 miles, 10:57 pace
Chill treadmill trot after work.
Saturday, 8.16: 12 miles, 11:14 pace
Long slooooow run, but felt really good thanks to my hydration the day prior! I never really marry myself to pace on long runs, just go whatever feels good and the splits that pop up are what pop up. 152 heart rate average means I did pretty well, I’d say.
Sunday, 8.17: 2.8 mile walk (40:52)
Got totally caught in a rainstorm en route home. It was refreshing for awhile until it very much wasn’t.
Total running mileage: 49.1
