The Kentucky Derby really is the most riveting two minutes on television.

Hey hey, happy Monday! Trying real hard to get myself hyped for the day. Mondays are my first day off of the fresh week and also my busiest with house chores, FMG work, and adulting in general. I always try to squeeze in some sort of fun activity, too, and today my goal is to make it out to St. Pete Beach in the later afternoon/evening.
But, my brain is a big hinderance to truly enjoying these outings. I get caught up in how long things take, how stressful commuting/parking/getting settled is, and, of course, the predictable periods of getting hungry and suddenly losing focus on everything due to. I’m a meticulous planner and not flexible in the slightest. When something goes wrong, the entire affair goes haywire. I’m trying really hard to reverse this trend because I find myself constantly rushed, irritable, and stressed, especially when I’d like to be chilling.
My therapist suggested, in order to avoid a huge trigger for me (traffic), that I time my outing to be away from the roads during the worst of rush hour. So, get to where I want to be around 3ish and leave for home when the congestion theoretically mellows, around 6:30/7. I liked this idea quite a lot and am going to try and implement it. Plus, it’s Monday, which is usually not as overwhelming on the interstate.
Do you get caught up in logistics so much that your off days become billowing clouds of stress? It really sucks, man. I’m already a whirlybird during the workweek – winding down on my Mondays and Saturdays would prove such a relief.

This was a VERY busy week, I spent pretty much all of my time at home sorting and organizing when I wasn’t at work. I partook in a huge cleanout of my closet, sorting and rearranging, and fucken found my social security card after having no idea where it was for the past 6-7 years. Pretty good thing to keep tabs on.

J climbed up the Big Ladder and dusted up around the airvents and the fan in the living area. It looks SO much better now.
Saturday was gloomy and rainy and such prevented us from getting out and doing anything notable. We did turn on the Derby coverage and enjoyed that hullabaloo throughout the afternoon. I tell you what, the race is so interesting to view even though it lasts such a short duration. The horse I was pining for was a late scratch because he freaked out right before the start gate – his name was Great White and he was a chonky boy. I love a good underdog story, though, and Golden Tempo’s kick was fucken impressive.
I hope I can experience something of the sort during my 5k races this summer.

Good foods from the week: “crab” mac and cheese (definitely making this into a real recipe soon!) with leftover crab turned the next day into crab salad tacos, crockpot baby back ribs and Caesar potato salad (amazing), bbq beans with leftover potato salad, and spicy shrimp rolls that will be coming soon! I am HYPED about those.
Nothing else terribly notable. Send good vibes my way that I enjoy a successful beach outing this afternoon. It’s a gorgeous day and it’d be a shame to waste it in anxiety overdrive.
Finishing off with a friendly reminder to all ya’ll who might be reading, a la my morning cereal:

Until next time, friends!
The Fuck We Cooking This Week?
…A bright and tangy salmon bowl!
…A big batch of a crunchy Chex mix.
…A refreshing copycat of a VERY popular coffeehouse drink.
A Few Things I’m Digging
Mug cake…My night snack lately has been some form of mug cake. Loving it. Usually I’ll do protein powder, wheat flour, sweetener, cocoa, soy milk, and a little melted butter, heated for 50 seconds or so. I like to top mine with peanut butter and chocolate chips. Quells the sweet tooth and gives me a little nutritional boost too!

Shops & Wish List
Target…Love this boat neck crochet sweater, it would look so cute over the lace bralette I bought a couple weeks ago…Adore this halter top minidress (dark pink or the yellow floral print)…This sea shell tea is super cute, with jean shorts and woven sandals I’d say.
H&M…This cotton fruit dress is definitely my style because IT HAS PEACHES ON IT, perfect for a beach day or al fresco dinner date…The asymmetric hem of this pretty pink dress is unique…Like this linen shirt + shorts set.
Reef…Bought their Water Vista sandals in “vintage oasis.” Can’t wait to trade out my crusty old flipflops for these pretties!
Week in Training
Monday, 4.27: 9.25 miles, 9:46 pace + 28 minute upper body & PT
Super strong session today! I loaded up on electrolytes on Sunday, with an extra tablet before bed, and chugged a glass of water with some nonflavored electrolytes before I headed out for this workout. I also brought along a packet of SaltSticks that I chewed after reps 2 and 5…7 x 800m at 10k effort, averaged 7:53 which is great for early session. I hope by the time I start really 10k training I can creep closer to 7:47/7:48, but I’ll take this for the time being!
Strength:
- 1 x 10/2 x 8 shoulder press 20#
- 3 x 12 triceps pushdown 24#
- 1 x 12/2 x 10 mid row 50#
- 4 x 8 triceps extension 30#
- 2 x 10 ea. side lunge press 10# (too heavy, need to go down to 5-8#)
- 2 x 15 ea. single leg bridge
- 2 x 20 ea. banded standing hydrants
- 4 x 6 ea. split squat 15#
Tuesday, 4.28: 4.5 miles, 11:17 pace + 25 minute upper body & PT
Woke up and just didn’t wanna today. Monday blues on a Tuesday. Run was windy but not exceptional in the slightest which was totally fine with me. I think I need to change my Tuesday lift routine up because I’m getting rather bored with it and not really looking forward to hitting the gym after work those days.
Strength:
- 3 x 8/1 x 10 biceps curl 20/15#
- 2 x 12 chest press 50#
- 3 x 10 skullcrusher 25#
- 1 x 10/2 x 8 narrow lat pulldown 60#
- 4 x 6 ea. leg extension 50#
- 2 x 15 ball hamstring curl
- 2 x 12 ea. kneeling lateral leg raises
- 2 x :35 inclined wall sit
Wednesday, 4.29: 7.75 miles, 10:18 pace + 29 minute mobility
Lots of speed today! 3 x (3 x 300m) at mile pace, with 90 seconds between reps and 3 minutes between sets. Aside from my first rep (first rep never counts) I stayed within my 6:35-6:42 range! Averaged 6:40 and my last set actually felt like my smoothest. Really challenging but very satisfying session.
Thursday, 4.30: 65 minute elliptical + 32 minute legs
Tired today. I think I’m almost ready to swap out my Thursday spins with a sixth run day, though we’ll see. My legs were sore from yesterday’s speed session and mobility work, but my strength workout felt pretty good surprisingly!
Strength:
- 3 x 12 ea. leg press 90#
- 4 x 6 diamond squat 50# SS 8 narrow squat 25#
- 3 x 10 ea. single leg deadlift 30#
- 3 x 8 ea. single leg squat 15#
- 4 x 10 elevated deadlift 70#
- 2 x 20 ea. hydrant
- :30 ea. pistol wall sit
Friday, 5.1: 7 miles, 11:36 pace + 25 minute full body
Heavy legs and HOT weather. It was 75 with a 72 dew point, pretty much summer, so I’d better get used to it! Miles felt okay though despite the slog and my tired limbs.
Strength:
- 3 x 8 thruster 20#
- 3 x 8 ea. single leg deadlift row 25#
- 3 x 12 front raise 25#
- 3 x 8 ea. reverse lunge curl 15#
- 3 x 12 curtsy lunge press 15#
- 2 x 20 ea. banded standing hydrants
- :35 ea. Copenhagen plank
Saturday, 5.2: 11 miles, 11:25 pace
Warm, humid, sticky run, but not too bad! Heart rate was 148 so at least I wasn’t working too hard. Good way to end out the training week!
Sunday, 5.3: 25 minute elliptical
Total running mileage: 39.5
