grapefruit rosé sour

A bouquet in a coupe glass.

Easter requires a pretty drink, and I’d say this Grapefruit Rosé Sour fits the bill beautifully. With April stretching and readying to exit and the warm months approaching, I’m oft switching from soul-warming sips (think bourbon, whiskey, creamy, the like) to floral and/or fruity.

Think porch and poolside drinking. Light and breezy.

Made with tequila and a splash of rosé, today’s cocktail will have you wandering in rose gardens in a sundress or linen, breathing in the light springtime scents of blooming buds and crisp babbling brooks. Least, that’s the image I’d like you to conjure – leastwise, something soft and natural and loving.

Share with a friend or two or enjoy on a lazy evening on the couch. Your move.

Hooray Rosé!

You certainly don’t need a top-shelf wine for this cocktail, but I’d choose one you enjoy nonetheless. Make sure it’s a still rosé and not sparkling. Sparking bevs are not wise to shake in a cocktail glass.

In a cocktail shaker (or a jar, if you’re like me and never have luck buying decent shakers), combine your wine, tequila, fresh grapefruit juice (or good quality bottled, like Simply), honey, a splash of lemon juice, and an egg white. The lattermost ingredient is optional, but will give you that gorgeous foam I love in a sour.

Dry shake your drink for 45 seconds, then add ice and shake 20-30 seconds more. The first shake helps build the foam layer and the second chills the drink.

Pour into your favorite coupe glass, garnish with some flowers or grapefruit wedges, and enjoy. Enjoying is the most important part, friends.
