garden party margarita

A summertime breeze in a cocktail glass.

When we visited The Edition for a Sunday resort pass getaway a few weeks ago, one of the drinks I ordered was a lovely carrot-mezcal concoction that just stuck with me once I finished sipping. I’m pretty sure some time ago I made a carrot cocktail (kinda too embarrassed about my early 2020s lack of photographic prowess to find the link), and I found it delightful.

So, let’s try again, with a more refined creative lens to boot.

My Garden Party Margarita is all parts simple, but so refreshing for these scorching summer afternoons. Light and swingy sipping, with refreshing carrot and orange juices to flavor, a kiss of lime, and a base of tequila or mezcal if you’re feeling a bit sultry. Five minutes and your happy hour bev awaits. Olé!

Party in the Garden, Party in Your Mouth

Das right.

I give the option of both tequila and mezcal since either or works beautifully with the other flavors. Mezcal, of course, will lend a smoky mouthfeel, and tequila is more classic. Use whichever you’d like here.

First, pick your rim, if you so choose one in the first place. Run a lime wedge (or any citrus) around the rim of your favorite cocktail glass. Pour a couple tablespoons of salt, sugar, or tajin onto a shallow plate, then dip and swirl your glass to coat.

In a shaker or a jar, combine tequila/mezcal, orange juice, carrot juice (I love Trader Joes’ cold pressed bottle), Cointreau, a bit of agave, and fresh lime juice. Fill with ice and shake until cold.

Pour into your glass, add more ice, and enjoy!

Promise all your summer soirees will be that much better with a drink literally containing the word party. Because I’m just that fucking clever.

Ahem.
