birthday cake martini

Happy birthday, you!

Or, happy Friday, as it is today.

I developed our Birthday Cake Martini the day after my birthday (so, New Year’s Eve). A celebratory coupe, I should say. This time of year I often get infatuated with anything pink or dabbed with sprinkles, and because of that mood shift, my cocktails especially tend to explode with hue and texture.

Like most of my cocktails, this creamy sip involves no special steps, unless you count the bedazzled white chocolate rim special. Which it is, just not in the “I must inconvenience myself with groceries I’ll only use once” special. A cute rimmed cocktail is my weakness and I quite love how it looks against this tasty but otherwise Whitey McWhite aesthetic profile.

Soap box moment over, let’s enjoy our drink, shall we?

Fun(fetti) For All Involved!

To start, I like to rim the glass with melted white chocolate and sprinkles. I will admit that the hardened chocolate can be a royal pain in the ass to wash off, but it’s so pretty I hardly give a shit.

Warm some good quality white chocolate chips or chunks for 1 minute in the microwave. Stir, then heat another 20-30 seconds to fully melt. Make sure you don’t buy those weirdo “white baking chips” that say on the bag that they aren’t chocolate. That shit does not melt, it hardens into some weird gloopy glob. I buy Lindt or Ghirardelli almost exclusively.

Find your favorite coupe glass. If needed, transfer the melty chocolate to a plate or shallow bowl, then dip the rim of the coupe, swirling to coat each side. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.

Shake some funfetti sprinkles onto a different plate (nonpareils or traditional sprinkles are fine here!) and rotate the white chocolate rim into the colorful pile. The chocolate will harden relatively quickly, so don’t worry about excess oozing.

For the cocktail, combine in a shaker vanilla vodka, amaretto, white chocolate liqueur, and heavy cream. Fill with ice and shimmy to and fro until the drink is cold.

Strain into your glass and enjoy! Piece of cake, right?
