Pat the salmon filets very dry with paper towels and lay on a flat surface.
In a small bowl, toss together 2 teaspoons of the curry powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a big pinch each of salt and pepper. Sprinkle over the salmon and rub over the flesh thoroughly.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the salmon skin-side down (or the side the skin would be on, if skinless) and sear 4-5 minutes. Flip, and cook 3-4 minutes more until golden and crispy. Move to a plate and keep warm.
Drizzle 1 tablespoon olive oil in the same skillet. Stir in the diced onion, garlic, and ginger for 3-4 minutes until soft and fragrant, then measure in the remaining 2 teaspoons of curry powder, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and cinnamon. Toast for 1-2 minutes until very fragrant. Swirl in the tomato paste and pumpkin puree with a wooden spoon.
Add the broccoli and pour in the coconut milk. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens and the broccoli softens. Stir in the cilantro, then slide the salmon filets into the sauce and, basting occasionally with the curry, cook until warmed through.
Divide the salmon and broccoli into bowls over steamed rice. Spoon on plenty of the sauce and serve with a soft naan bread.
Notes
*Cilantro hater?Use an equal amount of fresh basil instead.*Coconut milk substitute: If you don't like coconut or are allergic, heavy cream is a good swap.
