cinnamon spice bourbon sour

Cozy, a little smoky, and full of rich autumnal spices.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 2 oz apple cider
  • 1 oz spiced syrup (recipe below)
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 2 dashes vanilla extract

spiced syrup

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepot, bring the brown sugar and 1/2 cup of water to a simmer. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Whisk in the cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Heat for 5 minutes until the granules dissolve. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • In a shaker, combine the bourbon apple cider, spiced syrup, lemon juice, and vanilla. Fill with ice and shake until cold. Pour into a rocks glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and star anise, as desired.

Notes

*Pitcher version: Change the proportions for the spiced syrup as follows: 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup water, 3 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp clove. Heat as directed. In a large pitcher, combine the syrup with 2 cups bourbon, 1 cup lemon juice, 1 tsp vanilla, and 2 cups apple cider. Stir. Chill for at least an our.
